Interesting i didn't know it had become such a major problem i guess you better know who you are dealing with or go through an escrow process

Notice how sales threads are suddenly asking for X amount of positive feedback too?

At those other forums, I added a link in my sig to the Internet Crimes Complaint Center to encourage more reporting of these crimes. I've since seen the same link in at least one other sig. Wsih I could add it here without the expense of exclusive membership.

The biggest problem with paypal and domain names is long ago BEFORE this alert is they would not investigate or reimburse for domain purchases.

PayPal views domains as non-tangible property.

I paid for 19 about 3-4 years ago, none any large amount individually, but as a whole a substantial amount.

When the seller did not transfer and ignored countless emails, I contacted paypal. Within a couple of hours, they sent me a copy of their TOS outlining what they do not investigate and do not reimburse for and that was the end of story (according to them).

Even IF you pay with credit card, TOO BAD! You can do a charge back but PayPal will enforce payment with your credit card company no matter who they are. If it is Visa, MasterCard, AmEx, you agreed to PayPals terms of service which is separate from you issuing CC. And the CC's love PayPal.

After nearly 120 days of jumping through hoops, this was resolved only after contacting the UK cyber-crimes division. In less than three days time, the seller was all apologetic and claimed he thought he had transferred them all.

I don't see any problem with Paypal if you're selling to someone you can trust. With the older members here, I wouldn't mind doing Papyal, or even wires

The problem was the scammer stole user names from people that had a long history and high trader ratings. Given this false sense of security people did business with them.

Does anyone know what would happen with Escrow.com, if a buyer uses a stolen credit card, and a delayed chargeback is filed? Can they pull the funds straight back out of your bank account? I've had some scary moments using their services, when buyers simply vanished after a domain push, and are essentially forced by Escrow's staff to "confirm receipt" of the domain.

And last question if anyone has an answer, how safe is Escrow.com for transactions over the 100K range?

I've had some scary moments using their services, when buyers simply vanished after a domain push, and are essentially forced by Escrow's staff to "confirm receipt" of the domain.

thats why its better to use an escrow that takes control of the domain

All Moneybookers payments are Irreversible...
Once you are paid, you stay paid! Moneybookers is a "hard" currency and transactions are NOT reversible. Credit cards are a "soft" currency because transactions can be reversed. This leaves the merchant in a disadvantageous position because it is usually not practical to retrieve the goods once control has been given to the buyer.Instant and irreversible payments are thus advantageous features of Moneybookers payments.
