Does anyone have any experience with Tucows (domain registration)?

Hi!

I've been drooling on a domain name now for weeks and finally, we have agreed on a price. According to the whois info, the domain is registered at TUCOWS, INC., which I assume is www.tucows.com. I know Tucows is a huge company, but I am wondering if anyone has any experience with them as a registrar?

The reason I'm asking is because I am so frickin eager after getting this domain in my account ASAP, so I don't want to wait 5-7 days for a transfer-in. :)

I'd appreciate any input!

Patience is a virtue :D

I believe Tucows is a wholesaler only so the name was likely registered through a reseller of theirs.

In the 'thick' whois it should show something like 'registration services provided by: ______________' and they would be the ones you could setup an account with for the push.

If you can open an account direct with Tucows I'm not sure how......

Thanks Troy!

I even used Tucows own whois-service but I can't get any more details from it other than "TUCOWS, INC.".

Either way, I will move it to Moniker eventually anyways, so I guess I'll just have some patience. :)

The reseller its registered under can create user accounts and move a domain name into it. But they have full control over whether the domain name gets renewed or not and can change the domain info at their whim.

If I was not setup as my own reseller I would transfer any name of value out of that situation in a heartbeat.

Thanks a lot for the info. I will definitely have it transferred to another registrar then.
