Does it happen often that e-mails that are sent to a .com.au domain, go to the .com version of the domain?

I own the .com version of a .com.au domain... I receive private and time-sensitive information on a daily basis on this domain (even credit-card numbers!). So often that I start questioning: is this human error (to forget to type the .au extension) or a .com.au bug?

Are you talking about generic addys like admin/support/webmaster emails etc.?

That happens alll the time.

Or does someone at the.com.au have the same name as you?lol

No, I know about the webmaster@* etc... I'm talking about existing addresses for the .com.au domain.

I have the .com version of an exisiting .com.au domain.

Are you using a catch-all address? Pick one address, a unique one, not webmaster, sales, etc, and turn off the catch-all, or you'll always receive crazy spam.

Nothing unusual there
Before turning off catch all on a newly hosted domain I get all sorts of confidential email that are mistypes of the intended address

In your case it is probably laid back Aussies, who couldn't be bothered typing in the extra 3 characters ,.au , saying to themselves..
" She'll be right mate, near enough is good enough, and anyway, why do we pay an ISP if they can't figure out where the email should go to?"
