I launched a competition 2 1/2 hours ago on one of my sites. Pretty decent prizes given away by top uk celebrities.

Anyway, about 15 minutes ago, two of these celebrities tweeted the link to a combined total of 300k twitter followers.

So right now, there are 1,819 (and rising!) people that have tried/are trying to get onto my site.

It's great that I've got the publicity, and hopefully those users visiting will return again, but being on a shared server, it's overloaded it, and I'm trying to change services as quick as possible!

I don't want 503 errors all day long!

James, get a VPS at least if you are expecting big traffic on any of your sites. If you are half serious about it, you should upgrade. I mean you can get a proper VPS for $70 month, or you can lose your trust and traffic by saving $60 .. A chain reaction like this can produce you 10 times more a day than you saved on the hosting PER MONTH!

I'm looking into it now :) as a quick fix, I just upgraded hosting, and it seems to be working fine

Congrats! You're not a real man until you've crashed a server!

It's called a quality problem :)

If you can't make the switch in time and there's a chance you'll get shut out by your provider, redirect it to an offer. Might as well cash in if you can't handle 1800 visits

It may be available to good offers in 1-2 weeks (we're talking x,xxx btw)
