Frickin Kids Broke my Windshield

My car was parked literally in my front yard. Not on a side walk or off the road parking. IT was sitting directly in front of my porch at the time. They were in the yard throwing rocks.

The two girls are 6 and 9. The boys that actually done it are 8 and 9.

It's always the boys isn't it?

Many insurance companies cover windshield replacements, you might want to call yours and find out. If not, you'll have to go after the parents, Since these are all under children, the parents are legally responsible.

Sorry it happened to you... Good luck!

Well thats why I had the police report done for insurance purposes. I am hoping they will cover it. I know I will probably have a deductible which I would insist the parents pay.

Good idea but even if a rock hit your windsheild while driving, many insurance companies now offer free windshield replacement.

The ones who dont, might hit you with a deductable, that's when you want to go after the parents instead. Check with your insurance first then get a couple phone estimates.

Getting parents to take responsibility is harder to do than it is for the kids to understand they did something wrong.

I am not sure why, or how, but I have had to replace two windshields and never had to pay a penny out of pocket.

If they were throwing rocks, chances are they also did damage to the body and paint surfaces. Check everything very well and more sure it is all documented in the police report. Get photos of this as well. And then get the entire vehicle fixed and insist on compensation to cover your deductible as well as vehicle rental.

WOO HOO! Are we going to see you on Judge Judy???

Had a pretty good day until I realized four kids from across the road was having a field day by throwing rocks and my durango and the next door neighbors new 2009 lexus. But just my luck my windshield is the one that gets smashed. All of my passenger side windows are broken.

waiting for the police to show up.

Ugh

Wow. Those must be some seriously troubled and disturbed kids. If I caught some kids throwing rocks on my car, I'd slap them silly.

sorry to hear this pink

must be very stressful, seeing it, having to speak to parents etc. as you never know if the parents will be even bigger twats than the kids, denying kids did it etc

police involved, parents pay there and then, and apologise, and also put parents and kids in stocks at end of street for good measuire imho
throw rotten tomatoes at them for few hours

good luck

lol well so far I paid for my durango to be fixed. My deductable was 500 so I had to pay for it since the cost was $450. So far nothing has been paid back. They are supposed to pay me on Friday when the dad gets paid so we shall see.

you mentioned this isnt the first time...my concern would be what are these kids going to do next... I would get the whole neighbourhood involvded, including contacting a local police program...these kids sound like a going concern

little surpised at the ages..

Good Luck

My deductable is $500 as well. I wish you a speedy resolution.

Was thinking the same Stewie said. These kids need some help or they will end up in prison later in life.

Well to be honest when I called and reported the cop didn't seem to concerned once he found out their ages its kind of like "oh they are just little kids who made a mistake type thing". I seriously hope they out grow it.

It might also be based on the state. We had the same insurance company from NJ and FL. In New Jersey is depended on what my "comprehensive" coverage (and deductible) was. In FL - all insurance companies will cover your front windshield with no deductible, the side and back depends on your insurance policy.

Make sure they do - if they hesitate, don't hesitate to take them to court.

That's bull. It sounds like they do it all the time meaning the parents never taught them how to behave and throwing rocks is NOT a correct way to pass the time. Get them a football or a soccer ball and send them to the back yard. It wouldn't hurt if the parents joined them.
