Ignitela and Alfena are pissing me off.

I'm really starting to get sick of these two names: Ignitela and Alpfena. If you are into the .info drops then you know exactly what I am talking about. PocketDomain.com, aka Enom, catches every great name for themselves under these two aliases. And then you have Domainsite, the scavengers of the drops, they come in right after the drop time and pick of the leftovers, but at least they give the other guys a chance. Enom sucks!

Enom will snatch the domain name and its not for their customer's either. They "warehouse" the domain name and store it away. I've checked the whois months after the drop and it still hadn't changed. Bastards.

Yes, have observed all of this. Domainsite appear to be domain tasting and warehousing. .info can be had, but very difficult. The registrars know how valuable .info is and will be. Consequently, they are staying well ahead of the game since ICANN have chosen to ignore these activities. Some of the .info registrars have acquired are going to sell for 5-figures and above.

How to beat them if they are the registars where the names expire ? Or you mean you use other backorder cos to beat them?

Its alot harder to beat snapnames. I manually register all of my names and rarely use a backordering service. I usually beat Enom, Godaddy, dropcatcher.de, domainsite and especially other domainers. Its not always possible but there is time between the drop and the time that they pick it up, its probably between 2-3 seconds. You need to use a fast registrar and have everything go perfectly. I've had people email me after the drops asking to buy the name they just backordered.

Is it legal for a registrar to hold domains. They are not updating the whois info. which should be a violation of ICANN rules. I'm trying to get a name that exp before x-mas. It's not listed for sale anywhere.

I dont understand how registrars can cherry pick domains, or even own domains at all.

What if your stock broker could buy stocks however they want, using their volume and ability to react - they could put everyone on hold with any market change, cherry pick the best stocks, and then leave the rest. It would be chaos.

I bet there are other examples.

Domains ought to be as orderly as stocks or other large markets where professionals do not put their interests above their clients.

ICANN is weak. Its not good for the market.

I think most drop companies do this and if they don't get it, someone else will get it and just park it.

I don't even bother with b/o anymore - if I see a name I want is dropping then I just wait for it to become available.

I'm waiting on a name that exp. in December. I can't find it anywhere in the aftermarket. The whois info. has not been updated for over a year. Why would it not update for so long? I get emails from my registrar telling me that if I don't keep "MY" domain info up-to-date, then I could lose the domain. But it's ok for the registries to not keep their domain info up-to-date, or the domains they are hiding away from us. WTF??
Typing the domain into my browser returns nothing.
Registrars keeping good names from the public is similar to insider trading IMO.
This all seems like it would violate ICANN rules. Or is there a double standard?
If anyone has an idea how I can get this domain from Ignitela or who ever they are, please send me a PM. If registries keep these names, they won't be resold for reseller prices!!!

There is no relationship between enom and PocketDomain, please see:

And there never was for any domains other than COM and NETs as they had been leasing our connections for the COM/NET drop (aka "NameJet" and "ClubDrop").

We are currently involved in a massive rewrite of our backend software related to the ICANN RDE ("data escrow"), this is resulting in a temporary lack of updates by our Whois system.

Domains that have not been updated will be updated in the next few days.
