In my company (wireless phone provider) our CIO (Chief IT Officer) is leaving and they're putting the CNO (Chief Network Officer (and not computer network, communication network) in charge of IT.

I'm indifferent about the move, what's troubling me is a choice of wording that was used when someone asked about the integration of the two, they (the corrp execs) said "full integration".

Does this mean along with fixing computers I'll have to go out and fix towers?

My guess it's a money saving move only, no CIO saves the company xxx,xxx. The CIO and CNO should know each others roles very well anyway. Your role may or may not change but think positive to learn more, fixing towers or whatever is of benefit to you and an expansion of your skill set.

You could always go full force into your own business and become indifferent about the company itself

Oh, I am thinking positive, in fact, in my talks with the network ops guys in my office that want to learn desktop support.

Honestly, we already do some work for the RF teams (and apparently they're going to have some abrupt cuts soon). We help out with their modems and servers in the switch stations (local distribution hub) and the pop station (larger distribution hub, in south Florida we have POP stations in Miami, Naples, Ft Lauderdale, West Palm Beach, Orlando, and Tampa). I might have an opportunity to learn a lot and teach a lot.

Not going to happen anytime soon. I'd love to but right now PPC is minimal (I'm having my second best month this month, $20 total for about 110 domains). No paying clients for web publishing and no domain sales. :sigh2:
