Was just thinking about the fact that with domains selling so well at the moment that domains will get longer and longer etc. (if people hold onto them)

Do you think it'll ever get to the stage were companies in america and england etc. will join up and buy a domain (ie no other ties apart from the domain) was just thinking it'd be an interesting concept and good for cross water business relations.

I think the idea has potential but not sure that companies would be willing to do that.

Not sure i would as i work in the UK and America

i seriously doubt this will every happen, rahter than choosing longer names, in the future I see new TLDs being registered.

for example, new.net have created a few TLDs of their own, some have been rejected by icann however personally in the distant future their TLD, '.xxx' could be popular for the porn industry, etc.

one new TLD means an opening for billions of great domains, dependant upon the TLD itself.

the era of the internet is young, .com is just the first popular TLD, in a hundred years we might not even know about .com but find the most popular domain being .org ... really.

well, I for one doubt that I will be around in a hundred years, so I Prefer looking a little shorter term.

.com has the edge of being the pioneer. It is what people think of when they think 'internet'.
I doubt that this will change in our lifetime. That's not to say that other TLD's wont be coming along and increasing in value though (as already done with .info for example).

new.net have no TLD's.. they sell sub-subdomains.

weren't new.net just one big scam?
