have emails sent out to users when a post or a reply is made? sort of like this site, when you subscribe, but without subscribing.

sort of like the digest with yahoo groups.

I think it is easy to set it as to send an email when a new post is made that ther user is subscribed to or has participated in.
Now, if you mean send out an email when ANY new post is made, I would love to know if that can be done as well!

I'll give it a try, but it doesnt look like it can send out an email with every new post if the user has not subscribed.
Imagine also if the contents of the new post can be sent out my mail.
I've had a lot of such requests in my forums.

yes, that would be superb. and I think that was what Mpineli meant, unless I didnt understand him.
Ideally, it would send out a notice with every new post regardless of participation or not in that thread 9assuming one elcts this option), and with aoption to include the message of the post.

I can create mods and hacks for phpbb but this one is dangerous.

Are you sure you want all users to get an email when any post is made? The email should include the post made as body text of email.

Hmm...are you sure about this? How many users do you think the system will have? How many post per day?

well i would want it to be like the yahoo group emails. where it just shows the posts, not really the content of the post. Just the subject of the post or whatever.

could it just be for one certain forum? can it be just for certain users?

that would be ideal. sort of like mixing a mailing list and a forum.
