One of my blogs has a lot of traffic so there is a lot of attempted spam in it.

Luckily, not only do I have it set up where all comments need to be approved BUT Akismet is great.

So, I get a notification that someone just signed up for my blog. Their username?

buycheappaxilfromme

Seriously? Not even trying to hide it?

of course, within a minute, they comment (picked up by Akismet):

Buy cheap paxil from me! (with link).

Again, seriously? No "Nice site! I have the same beliefs, check out my blog" trap? No, "Check out the information here!"? Nope, straight forward spam.

This was more obvious than the guy at the Palm Beach zoo handing his card with his website on it to everyone he saw today.

you gave two live links to spammer.

One guy spent 3 hours posting dozens of nearly identical links to his site, I had to boot him.
Most of my spammers haven't figured out how to vote their site onto the published page.
