LLL.com - Taking Offers from $1

Anyone think these sorts of titles need to be banned? You see them all over the for sale forums and know that the seller is never, ever going to sell anywhere near that price.

People then waste their time offering those stupidly low amounts, then more come in thinking there is a deal going down and outbid them with another low amount.

If you are taking offers from $xxx then you should be going to accept an offer somewhere within that range if nothing else is offered. Obviously it's not a reserve price, because it would then be an auction, but offers from $1 for a LLL.com, it's just stupid, especially when you then go and set a bin of like $10K.

It's the same with eBay auctions where the reserve is hidden but the starting price is one buck. However, you've raised a valid point: some offers are in fact hidden auctions

I don't think there is a way to actually ban such sales - LLL.com or otherwise - because it would require expert valuation of domains. If someone wanted to, say, put: "taking offers from $5,000" - while it's known that currently no LLL.com sells for less than $6,500 how would you justify ending that sale?

The seller might want to sell quickly, especially if they held the domain for a long time or even bought it at a low price.

For the record, the lowest I spent for a LLL.com was $159.50 in 2002

You certainly got my attention with this thread title -- not only because it is legitimate sales tactic (morality is a different topic, so no need to point that out) but it made me think that some newbie had posted a sales thread in Platinum Lounge (saw Acro as the last poster so I thought that someone was getting his ass spanked in public ).

As for banning, I am not sure if it is such an easy thing to implement -- people come up with special offers to get attention all the time -- and it is just another offer. And acro has pointed out an even more solid reason -- how do we dispute the value and if the offer is indeed legitimate.

Sure, people have sent us complaints about a few long-time sellers who make threads claiming to accept offers from a very small amount and then insult those who make low offers. THAT is NOT acceptable.

But if the person is indeed willing to consider offers for the name from $1 -- then it is not deceptive marketing. =)

It is not easy to set a rule to ban but we can use common sense and lock or close these type of threads.

It is the tactic to bump the thread as there are many people out there just like to post.
Nothing is more ridiculous than taking offer starting at $1 and later add a BIN for $5K.

the subject was brought up before, and we all know that no one is going to sell a LLL com domain for $1

it's an attention grabber and an outlet for lowballers to post an offer in a LLL com thread.

something like:

"I'll start you off with $200"

for the OP, it's a free bump

but for every other sales thread in that section, it's a push down the que

in the end, if the domain gets sold then what can we say?

Though it's annoying it's a Universal Tactic well spread all around, this is not Just DNF's issue. You want to buy a domain irrespective of the thread title try to buy it or ignore and move on.

It's our preference that makes us feel annoyed

I also think that how much ever we debate on this issue, this practice remains for long long time.
