got an email today from some dude offering to sell me the "hyphenated .com version" of a domain that i dropped last month.

he must have checked whois to see who owned the "hyphenated .net version", hoping he could sell it them, not knowing i used to own both.

i replied "no thanks, the .com version gets no traffic"

just another incident where the .net is worth more than the .com!

:)

I've been offered to buy domains that I legally own. :S

In fact, one place is still openly selling a domain that I've owned for several months now.

Possibly he thought you dropped it mistakenly and like to sell it back to you.

They may never give up. I get that a lot, including trying to sell me the net, org or .biz when I have the com or the reverse trying to sell me the com or net when I own the org and I know the com/net get no traffic but the org does. Also emails trying to sell me the non-hyphen or hyphenated version when I already know they don't get traffic.

Must be domainers doing this, probably members of the domain forums. Maybe they could come forward about their success at it, assuming they are reading this :?:

I like the emails I get where they are offering to sell me the .com since I own the .net.
It is always a marginal domain.

Irony is, they don't even own the .com. It was sitting there unregistered.
It must had dropped and tasters released it.

I guess some people/business will say - "Yes, I will buy it for $ 79."
And, then the seller goes and registers the domain.

It'll never stop. :)

I love the emails I get offering to register variants of (myrealname).com! I own two and they're the only two I'll ever want.

Recently had someone trying to sell me several names I had dropped not too long before.

I feel real uncomfortable ever letting names expire because they are invariably picked up by a domainer even though when I had them they had basically zero traffic and no income which I why I dropped them in the first place. Maybe they are seeing someting I am somehow missing?

biggie these emails are automated :)

I had the funniest accident withthese guys. They offered me to buy a .com version of a .net domain I own, so I went on and checked it and that domain - the .com - was actually unregistered, it dropped some time ago! So I just registered it heh
