Wanting to add a domain to my .org nameservers at Enom, I was faced with this message:

".ORG name servers cannot be added or deleted for .NET and .COM names."

Is this just a temporary thing with the recent "changes" or something more of a problem?

".ORG name servers cannot be added or deleted for .NET and .COM names."

????? Hmmmm.....

So it was a .net or .com name then - right? Or was the message itself incorrect?

That is correct - trying to resolve a .net and a .com to a .org nameserver. The statement was up on the control panel before I entered the nameservers, so it was a warning notice rather than an error report if you see what I mean :)

I guess he meant using a .org as the nameserver and eNom apparently did not allow it even for .com or .net domains, right?

Welcome aboard, Mr Webname. Wow, you've already got 45 posts!

47 actually Nameslave .... no wait a minute ....

That's correct - no .net or .com on .org nameservers!

Roger - you just can't stand it can you? You have to go and do things to complicate the system. :D j/k

Man...... I honestly don't have a clue. Send eNom support an email right away though. They are usually pretty good about getting things resolved.

If you don't mind - keep us updated in the thread. This information may help somebody else who runs into the same situation soon. Good luck man!

:D - support email sent.

Incidently yesterdays problem re: "Client-Hold" has turned up today as:

Status:CLIENT HOLD
Status:PENDING DELETE

So I'm feeling quite positive (now if only it gets snapped!!).

Reply from Enom:-

Thank you for your inquiry regarding '.org nameservers.'.

This is a temporary problem from the new .ORG registry: http://www.publicinterestregistry.org/
Also - Verisign Customer Service wanted to pass along an important update regarding the management of ORG name servers. Details are as follows:

Issue:
Registrars (such as eNom) will not be able to add or delete ORG name servers that are delegated to COM or NET domain names through the SRS Production system or Registrar Tool. All changes will have to be made manually.

Impact:
This issue only affects you if you have an ORG name server that will be used to host a COM or NET domain name.

Roger - thanks for keeping us posted!

By the way - I just received this letter.......

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

On January 27, 2003 the registry for .ORG domain names changed to the Public Interest Registry (PIR).
That means the authority for .ORG domains is no longer the same as .COM and .NET.
The change was made with little fanfare and almost no disruption in service.
However, there are some issues that still need to be ironed out.

Current Issue:
PIR provides no automated way to add or delete .ORG name servers that are delegated to .COM or .NET domain names.
PIR promises to provide an automated solution by March 15.

Resolution:
eNom Customer Service will perform .ORG name server adds or deletes manually upon client request by using our Support Center, phone or email. The eNom Support Center will provide the fastest service turnaround.

Impact:
This issue only affects you if you have an .ORG name server that will be used to host a .COM or .NET domain name.
