I sold a domain in May 2009 for $2600. The buyer paid $1000. I kept sending him emails for the remaining $1600, but he always ignored me. I gave up. Then I created a thread in the Legal section here; I told the story and posted his info.

Then, I sent an email to him with a link to the thread. This was last month.

Today, he contacted me, requesting that the thread be removed. After some talk, he completed the payment and I requested a mod to remove the thread. Case closed.

So... if you are in a similar situation:
I want you to know that the name-and-shame tactic does work. But you'd need a great forum like DNF, which could make the issue known, and only then you would have some hope in getting your money back.

Thank you DNF!!

fine work. good feeling ...

by removing the thread, you are giving him the chance to attack someone else, I wonder how many people he has scammed. Good for you that you got the money, but by removing the thread you are exposing us all to this scammer!

glad you got all your funds

but, had you required "payment in full" originally, before pushing or transferring the domain, then this could have been avoided.

don't leave the door open to get screwed

then that member probably wouldn't be getting accused of being a scammer

imo...

HOPE: In that thread, I told the story of how he scammed me for $1600 and never paid. But now he already paid in full; I have the funds in my PayPal account, which means he is NOT a scammer.

biggie: yeah, I was stupid, I even pushed the name first.. Simply because he was using a premium domain name for his email.. (duh!)

i "HOPE" you didn't learn that from one of our members here

do ya think i re-quoted it enough for others to get it too

:)

Glad it worked out ... :yo:

It is quite embarrassing, actually, but if I can serve as an example for our community, why not...

Well, sometimes I am just too trusting :undecided:

I thought that you cannot remove a thread from the legal section here. Am I wrong?

So you lent him $1,600 for a year, interest free.

Acro: I did ask for some compensation. After PayPal fees, I got $2633. $1000 back then and $1633 yesterday, after nine months of waiting

Curious if he explained why he didn't pay you all these months.

Yeah, especially considering he has such a successful website on the domain name. But he did not explain anything, and it seems that he only contacted me again because he wanted the thread removed.

Were you able to remove a thread from the legal section?

Onward: Yes, when I tried to open that thread, it said "Invalid Thread specified."
