i've found a 3-word domain that looks fairly promising in the overture stakes
it is available in 2 formats...

[word1][word2]-[word3].com

and

[word1]-[word2]-[word3].com

the term when entered in overture (with the hypens '-' although i am not sure it makes a difference) reported 12931 searches last month...

I have seen a few discussions on here in my short time as a member that weigh the pro's and con's of this kind of domain (as in those of the hyphenated variety) but i'm just curious to see what people think.

Also to save people repeating the ago old adage... if you have to ask someone its not that good an idea... i'm just trying to limit the number of domains i get that are worthless :)

any input is more than welcome

cheers

For resell they do not fetch much, but for development and promotion does work with a good webmaster.

thanks for the reply dotcomster that was exactly the kind of thing i wanted to know...

following on from what you said... does having a hyphen in between the words increase its ranking in the search engines significantly...?

I have found another name that is a long one (4 words hyphenated = 24-characters) but pulls in 24025 searches on overture...

are there any easy ways of using this as a re-direct to another site on the same subject while retaining a high ranking in the search engines...

No idea about search engines, but it's easy to point "re-direct" one domain to another.
www.SelfPromotion.com is good for search engine info

looks like a handy site... i will check it out...

thanks once again

following on from this i have just regged a domain that looks horrible but is purely for better ranking in the search engines...
