Does anyone here understand the query process, where the queries are pulled from, where they could be collected and possibly mined, etc.? I've had domains picked up by Chesterton Holdings, and each query was sent through different websites [some with domain.com, some with GoDaddy, etc]. So obviously there is a leak in the data pool way up the food chain above and beyond the registrars themselves. How that works out, I have no idea. Any information would be much appreciated.

If you query the registry directly you cut out most of the potential trouble. So if you want a .com go to verisign registry whois, .org go to PIRG's whois, etc. There are free script around so you can set up your own web page that does this or just collect the links to the various registries.

I thought we were discussing the issue in a broader sense then it just occurring at Dynadot. If I've stepped into a kick the crap out of Sasquatch thread, my sincerest of apologies.

Doesn't anyone here know how to do SAFE whois searches? PM me if you're paranoid about this topic and I'll charge you for a consult and give you some software that I wrote. This is a 'no brainer'. After years of doing this, I can't imagine why anyone would go to any registrar and use their 'domain availabilty checker'.

Mods - no self-promotion intended here but this is a ridculous thread.

Want me to quote what you said, about me "licking hairy asses" just because I defend a respectable member whom you chose to bash, based on your FAILURE to secure domains?

My failure to secure domains or other's success of securing my idea through a crooked registrar acting like pimp?

And just beceuase somebody is "respectable member" here doesn't mean he or she is an angel behind the closed doors. Don't you know that the biggest criminal minds and serial killers are those that their neighbor's refer to as "quiet, pleasant people"?

Just because somebody goes to church every Sunday, screws his wife three times a week (and his mistress once a week) it doesn't mean he still doesn't jacks off on animal porn late at night, and/or doesn't like to mine other people's data when serially registering domains.

People who do this are the indeed textbook cybersquatters of new breed. The original cybersquatters (back in 90s) were at least speculating on other people's actions, this kind of scum takes the game further and actually doesn't speculate but takes somebody else's idea point blank.

RESPONSE FROM DYNADOT:

We are not selling search logs. We would never do something like that. Several people have asked us this recently.

When you do a search, there are several places where your info may be intercepted.

1) Between your browser, and our web server. The connection is not SSL, though we have been thinking of adding a SSL protected search. There may be people out there sniffing traffic.

2) Between our server and the central registry. This is a SSL protected connection. I know we are not selling search data, and I sincerely hope the central registries are not doing it. The main search sends your request to all registries (COM, NET, ORG, INFO, WS, etc) and if only one of them is selling data then the search is compromised.

3) From our web server back to your browser.

Actually, I am even prepared to give them the benefit of doubt. Maybe they don't do it, but others do. In any case, the result regarding bulk searching at Dynadot doesn't change a thing. However the crooks are getting that information they are still getting when you do it through Dynadot. So stay away from them for those purposes.

I think after this email you owe an apology to Dynadot and Mrs. Jello LLC. Otherwise, your rantings here are basis for legal action on their part. To the rest of us, it's clear that your obscurity antagonizes your ability to judge right from wrong. I detect several concurring manias that lead me to believe a potential lack of breastfeeding at childhood has overcome your psyche and has developed into an anger for all things successful.

just my 2 cents- do NOT flame me, yell at me or curse me out for god sakes-

but, if i WAS doing something bad, i would say i wasnt doing it also- i mean, if dynadot was doing it, do you honestly think they were going to answer with:

Dear Sir-
Why yes, we ARE selling searches!

of course they are going to say they are not doing it..

i am NOT saying they are, i am just saying it is silly to think they would say they were :)

I don't owe anyone apology, especially not to some unsafe registrar (who claims innocence on the basis of "technical" technicalities) and some virtual avatar who embodies the very defintion of mass cybersquatter in the web 2.0 age when such obvious cybersquatting is considered depicable.

And that stale and unoriginal skit about the breasfeeding I already seen you use on Denny, who because of your lack of real life, is no longer a member here, even though he had more integrity that your blabbing mouth will ever have. Nice work malaka.

Nice work malaka.

Right back at you, poutanas yie (look it up).

You know what, sassysquatch, I would give you a smidge of worthiness if you had the cajones to admit you're wrong by apologizing to those that you picked with your filthy mouth earlier, myself included. But since you continue the hubris with more cusswords, I pity you - low life mass of hair.

Continue spewing insults at this rate and I will ensure you meet your buddy Danny for a nice tet-a-tet, away from this forum.

Please go back into the hole in the ground you crawled out from. Nobody gives a rat's ass about your psychedelic cries for attention. And save your homophobic "ass" jokes for the ones you apparently share a bed with.

PS How's Danny doing these days? Don't forget to say hello to him on the way home.

I sincerely hope you seek some help in the mental department - before some poor soul pays the price for your sociopath trail in life.

For the less intrepid amongst us, the self-effacing 'Bigfoot' is an inveterate plonker. Thread needs mod action. Ban that bloody aZooZa. Again.
