Right now they are focusing their efforts on promoting the 5 000 000 th registration given the ramp up time they say they will have color flyers posted in all major subway stops by 2015. :lol:

That's a great point Whitebark, why would they not have at least sent out an email to each Registrant. I would bet a very low percentage of dot-ca owners even know about the million mark. It's really kind of sad...

Why are we being kept in the dark? cause last time I checked I'm a Cira Member.

There are a lot of unanswered questions and i'm sure we are all tired of this leadership.

Marketing costs money so Cira would need to have a budget. The money has to come from somewhere (we know they haven't spent money on advertising yet). That would mean... the usual direction of Cira funds would have to be changed so some folks or divisions would be lighter.

We are on a bus and Cira is the bus driver who doesn't seem to care about the destination as much as we do. Cira can make money by just driving in circles.

To change this we need to demand action or take action.

Well they did a press release on their website...as well as that small interview for CTV.ca and a millions domain website which features some .ca registrants. I do agree though that they need more publicity.

I think the best bet is, once CIRA sells a certain amount of domains (maybe a bit more than 1 million) they should open the market to the rest of the world. This would not only ensure that Canadians have a good identity online but increase the value of the domains. The main complaint was that Canadians wouldn't have an identity...but with a certain amount of .CA sales already done to Canadians they must know that this isn't the case anymore. Also, maybe make a discount for Canadians to buy/own .CAs...either that or make the process easier for Canadians and a bit harder for others. This way they could keep a balanced "ratio" of International to Canadian registrants. My last idea would be that maybe they could at least open the registry to businesses outside of Canada (or individuals) who could prove that they have some sort of business or personal relations with Canada.

They let businesses in Canada have .ca's. You can be in the U.S.A and own .ca's if you have a business in canada.

I have a feeling it will be a long while before they open it up to the world. They would need at least 5M .ca's taken first i'm sure. 1M is too little.

yeah 1M is too little. I know about that rule for USA businesses (or other countries)...the problem is for them to actually register a company in Canada and then pay taxes, etc. I kind of continued this thread or discussion in the other thread "Reasons to own a .CA".

krauslaw.ca is suppossed to be the 1 millionth domain... yet CIRA responded to a direct question from another dnf user explaining that they wouldn't know which domain would be the 1 millionth... so which is it? That response from CIRA was posted here as well.

I swear they don't know their asses from grasses, and are probably just making things up... select a law domain as it's non-offending and generic, yet the 1 millionth domain was probably a typo, TM or porn related...

There is nothing in CIRA's mission statement that suggests that they will advertize or promote the .ca extension.
