18 Hours Until Vegas

Leaving for a loooong weekend in Vegas in 18 hours and was wondering if anyone has any tips about what to do, eat, see etc? This is my first time to Vegas with any considerable free time.

if you plan on gambling, have a daily budget.

if you like buffets, try the buffet at the Rio hotel

if you want free rental car for a day....take the "time-share" seminar, but don't buy anything!!

if you play any slot machine with a jackpot, make sure you put max coins in on first pull!!

I'm sure you'll want to check out lots of hotels as it is overwhelming, but if you are short on time - it's worth seeing the Venetian, the Bellagio (especially fountains at night), the Luxor...and there a couple of more, but I'm sure you'll see them all anyway.

Also, I highly recommend getting brunch or at least wanderig through the impressive Steve Wynn Hotel and Parasol Cafe. It is one of the newer hotels and is one of the classier (in Vegas terms) hotels to date.

Also, if you have time to see a show - O (is it still playing?) is a definite must for 1st timers.

so far have dinner lined up at Daniel at the Wynn (love Afterhours on HDNet) and David Burke at the Venetian. probably going to hit up Olives at the Bellagio for lunch too to get the view of the water.

any advice on poker rooms? kicked my online habit a long time back, but wouldn't mind putting in some serious poker time in vegas.

the comedians at the Improv are pretty good, way better than the ones in other cities because...well its Vegas...
...if you havent done a Helicopter tour through the Grand Canyon yet, thats a cool non-gambling thing to do as well..its about $300 each...
...and dont gamble when you are drunk..thats where I usually lose my money..leaving the club going straight onto the casino floor..bad idea..

only been there once for one night so i wish i had more advice. I played a tournament at Binions which was a lot of fun.

there was a magazine in my hotel room that listed most of the poker rooms and what they offered (tournaments, cash games, what buy-ins etc.) if you are going to play cash games i recommend going online to look at some reviews because they usually tell you which games are soft and where the sharks are.

also i hear the pool at hard rock is the place to go to 'recover' on sundays.
