Although I have never used this company, I thought it's worth reposting.
Take a look at their traffic: 380,915 U.S. visitors per month

The company’s United States Website says it is experiencing technical difficulties, but employees of the Tampa-based business said it has gone bankrupt.

They showed up for work Tuesday to find the light out and the doors locked.

I don't believe the site ever went down, but the employees were locked out, and operations have ceased.
My local news did a story on this, and apparently it was confirmed by the parent company in Ireland.

"Droves of customers who booked their summer travel plans through 1800Hotels.com are now left with non-existent reservations."
