2 character domains

what is the deal with them? you are not allowed to reg them, right?
but if you have one you can sell it and push it, right?
what if by chance, one dropped, and no one caught it, and it became avail? does it just stay avail forever now since no one can buy it?

its weird to see one "availbale" and you cant get it!

good question about 'why', I've never seen a reason for it. Many companies still use a two letter domain for their websites.
