2500 in chargebacks +what would you do?+

Okay so I have been working with someone for a few months now. They initially paid me 2500 total for a domain name, and for the creation of several websites and advertising of them for a few days.


So I sell the domain name and push it, create the websites and then of course I haven't been online for a bit because of knee issues. Well this guy decides to be mean and do a full chargeback on every payment that he sent me via paypal because I haven't advertised two of his sites.

Now I understand being upset if the sites weren't advertised but I am talking maybe $50 in advertising (simple things like submitting to directories, and doing a few link exchanges for him).... And offered to do it now for a longer period of time.

So what would you do? This guy is trying to create a "domain marketplace" to compete with sedo & moniker (which I know won't happen anyways) but wanting to make himself big and then he does this.

Obviously he will win the chargebacks because it was virtual goods and he still has the domains and websites. Ugh...

That may be paypals policies but that is not the final word when it comes to law.

If you feel that you are out more than the cost of an attorney, I would be talking to one asap.

What a mess. If you can't resolve the issue with them, I'd be asking for the domain and websites back!

I hate paypal I wish there was another popular solution to buying and selling online aside from wires just because many people won't do it.

Paypal it seems protect scammers better than they do legit sellers or buyers.

would have been a good idea to have a separate contract for each type of work...then you would more legal ground.

Wow, i cant wait to be involved in this guys new "domain marketplace", just what we all need, another "honest" auction platform!

Makes me sick, tell the guy you will tell every domainer in the forum/s about his new "marketplace", and how honest he is, if that dosn't get a result, i dont know what will.

But you also need to do the advertising deal you agreed to aswell BTW.

hes not a member but I did few different sites for him including pokerplayingtips , spintowin and a few others. I will find out the new domain he is using for his marketplace and post it here.

Well one thing he didnt do that was dumb was move the sites from my hosting. I did email him and ask to resolve this and that wasn't happening so his sites are now no more. I figured he had moved them especially before reversing but when I deleted the stuff from my hosting the sites went down. So guess he screwed himself.

Its just unfortunate because he seemed easy to work with and I put alot of work into many of these sites especially the written content and designs.

Do you think he was planning on doing this all of along? Or was it really only the $50 worth of link building that pissed him off? Very sad...

Nope never crossed my mind that he would do that otherwise I wouldnt have accepted paypal. Normally I only accept paypal from DNFers for larger amounts of graphic work. Lesson learned I guess.

What i would do is to write a letter to him about that your lawyer will contact him if he does'nt pay back everything - the $50 (i figured you dont want anything to do with him so). The thing is you dont really need to have a lawyer you are just going to scare him to pay. I hope it works

$2500 falls under small claims - take him to small claims court. Bring proof of the work that you did and sue him for that plus court fees etc...

If he doesn't show up then he's guilty by default and if he doesn't pay within a reasonable time, then you can process a lien against him, garnish his wages, and so on.
