Is there any simple way for me to find out who or what is generating this kind of traffic toward my site??

Check the stats (if you have installed such a program). It is also available in cpanel (if you have it with your hosting) otherwise download the raw logs.

Usually it is search engine bot / crawler.

yeah, if one of the crawlers is eating too much of your bandwidth, you can always forbidden the access for that one.
I suggest you to check the server logs to get an idea about the source.

if you are using Cpanel, PM me and I will help you.
You may also install a free counter to see where the hits are coming from see www.addfreestats.com

Did at 5:30 this morn. They're looking into it!

Just broke 500,000.
Now I know how domains like freeinternet.com get so many hits.

so. what was it?

As others said, go into your server logs and look at the top referrers.

So far a Yahoo BOT and a Travel Stuff, something, something. Designers and Interland finally working on it.
