Advice please!

I have an idea for a new website and iPhone app related to realtime reviews.
I've had some quotes from iPhone app developers and the prices range from $5-10k for building it.

I don't have that kind of $ to invest in that project at the moment. I believe this would really work and can take off in conjunction with Twitter and googles new real time search feature.

Would you try to seek investment for this, or put the project off for three or four months until I have the money, by which time someone may have already developed a similar and very successful site and app?

Ive done a google search and can't find anyone doing exactly what I'm thinking about.
