Yesterday, Noel Cabral (whois), found it to be a good idea to go and register NewtownShooting.com after the terrible child massacre that happened in Newtown CT.

As of now, the site has parked ads and a "This domain is for sale" sign..

Noel, people like you are truly among the lowest scum on this earth.. :disappointed:

Happens every time theirs an unfortunate tragedy like this one, and it's we as domainers who get the black eye.

Their so blinded by greed that they don't see the repulsiveness in it.

I think what's more disturbing is the massacres taking place. Greed doesn't kill people. Ohhh wait.

And most of the time those people are not even domainers.

They are not domainers, not even if they own 10,000 domains. Practice like this has nothing to do with domaining.

Crazy people are everywhere. Who cares how it makes domainers look.. let's think about the 27 families who lost a loved one. Just sayin'.

With any tragic event, the lands are littered with profiteers.

Expect t-shirts soon probably.

+ points

there is virtually 0 possibility that a name or phrase won't be registered for such events in the future, unless registrars prevent them, or....

they become so common and a part of society, that they no longer have type-in value.

as such, only we as a people can initiate a change.

imo...

People don't change. Human nature is powerful, and profiteering is genetically encoded in us (part of the survival instinct)

The best we can do as a community is disavow those who would try to profit off of tragedy, just as we disavow those who cause the tragedy.

It won't do a thing to change them, but it makes us better people.

cap·i·tal·ism /ˈkapətlˌizəm/ Noun

An economic and political system in which a country's trade and industry are controlled by private owners for profit.

Good luck with that.

Another registered yesterday is NewtonConnecticut.com

Also, NewtonShoots.com has nothing to do with the event, but still very unfortunate.

registered Ryan Lanza yesterday (mistakenly identified as the gunman)

Sohmers, Mike

This person is probably very disappointed that once the real identity was announced, someone else had already regged it - back in 2010!

SandyHookSchool.com was also registered yesterday, and it looks like GoDaddy suspended it.
Check out the name servers:

It appears it had at one time been a legitimate site or good intentions, but had been dropped at some point.

And new registration shows it was re-regged yesterday.

Same kind of folks who think a good time and place to protest a war, is at a soldier's funeral.

Would anybody here like to register a domain in order for us all to publicly comment on / condemn this practice of cashing in on others' misfortune? We're all agreeing with each other in private, but the public perception will not be based on what we say here.

I had been reading about the horrifying events but had to stop reading (and looking) at the story now that they have released the pictures of the kids. Absolutely heart wrenching and sad beyond compare.

Also, I noticed something last night that I have never seen before. Saturday Night Live usually kicks off the show with a comedy sketch. Last night was a group of beautiful children dressed in choir robes. They opened the show with acapella rendition of Silent Night. I have never seen anything like this on Saturday Night Live. I thought something funny was going to come in and start the comedy sketches (does anyone remember the John Malkovich sketch of reading The Night Before Christmas to a group of children?

It was an obvious tribute to the incident and very moving.
