Anger brews over government workers' benefits

In under developed or developing countries to have a government job is a dream come true.

And it is the same in America.

Once you get a Government job your life is set.

And you can keep on bargaining for more..

why would people bargain for less? duh..no matter what the job is people always want more pay, more benefits, ect. living in ottawa, government job central here in canada..its such a stupid assumption/stereotype that government workers 'have it made' and do nothing.

I do know most of them work hard - There is no question on that. (Specifically in America)
-- Compensation and benefits are way more lucrative than in Private jobs.
especially Benefits - I did hear some of jobs like in prison system are to people who has connections.


Under developed countries - Government works only work if some one bribe them.
(For Example India) - Most of them make more money on Bribes then their jobs.
People bribe the officials to get those jobs..

There is the general perception that public sector workers live better than the public which they are supposed to serve.

Some of them are paid ridiculously high pensions and benefits. They are greatly overstaffed.

And there is the perception that they add little to the economy, they cause tax increases and job losses --they are economic "takers" not givers.

There is also the issue of conflict of interest. There is a very cozy reciprocal relationship between the unions and the government. There is the idea that public sector unions and the government "negotiate" while sitting on the same side of the table.

Elected officials are always in favor of employees that work for them..
As their term is much smaller then the employees and elected officials are to depend on the employees..

There is a catch 22 - so any elected official takes care of the employees interest where as it is opposite in the private sector.
