Appraisal Scam?

i got the same one last week from a robert smith. it was curious at first i didnt know what he had to gain from it

the reason i knew it was a scam though is quite simple. the domain he emailed about is actually pending delete within days. it would make no sense for anyone to even know about Sedo and moniker, etc who also does not know how to see from whois that my domain is being dropped

They might be using this forum as a "feed" (for the lack of a better term) for their spams - see who is selling / looking for appraisals, get the WhoIs and then spam away.

It must be, I got another one yesterday for another domain that was posted in the appraisal section of this forum, only place I ever posted it.

Whoever is doing this, is definitely using the forum.

I did read your post and I don't agree with your assertion, The second inquiry I received was for a crappy brandable domain that had no wiki article or anything in the search engines, not even the DNF appraisal was indexed..... This is much unlike the first domain.

No, this guy is using the appraisals on DNF to SPAM domainers, no doubt about it.

And if you think about it, the appraisal section on domain forums is the most likely place a spammer would look for sending out these appraisal scams.

No, this guy is using the appraisals on DNF to SPAM domainers, no doubt about it.

And if you think about it, the appraisal section on domain forums is the most likely place a spammer would look for sending out these appraisal scams.

I've seen another spammer in the last days sent me a spam-mail via whois...same story I've posted the domain only on DNF (and Sedo).

So they read this forum or they use Sedo to spam.

I disagree. Many newer domainers fall for this hook, line, and sinker. They are new, hand registered a bunch of domains (moth are worth reg fee) and then they get an offer to buy.

The newbie gets excites and pays for the appraisal, since they are new they go with the cheapest one (usually belonging to the spammer).

I almost fell for this 3 months after I started but when they asked for an appraisal, I backed off and asked about it on here (years ago).

I never posted mine in the appraisal section - only for sale. But, what better place to build up a spam base than the largest domaining forum on the internet?

Harvest domains for sale & appraisals, get the WhoIs, and then get their domain lists using the WhoIs information. A cheap investment that can easily pay for itself with a few people falling for it.

Agree, I thought perhaps the appraisal section was the only place their feeding off of, but their going into the sales section as well.
