Best Notebook for Developers?

I have a IBM thinkpad right now and hate it so much I hardly ever use it.

Would you mind sharing what is it that you hate so much in your IBM laptop..also the model # would help.
I've a T42 w/ Pentium M and it works great.

my choice is Acer Ferrari series...I have 3000, you may gor for 4000. It is pretty good and impressive performence.

I use Dell as its perfect for work. I just bought it few weeks ago.

Dell i6000, 15.4" TRUE Life ( costed me additional $169 ) , 1.8ghz Pentium M, 1.25GB Ram ( 256 + 1GB Additional Upgrade ), X300 128MB Dedicated Graphics, 100GB Seagate 5400RPM Hard drive ( I opted Storage over speed,7200rpm .... Plus the new Momentus peform really good at 5400RPM ), 40GB External Notebook Drive ( no need to power it up runs on USB ) , 6-cell plus Additional 9-cell battery, DVD Dual Layer Burner ...

All this for a stealing $1633.

Myne and my brothers IBM laptops have both Fallen apart somehow, IMO a toshiba is the best way to go

I'll be travelling a lot more in the coming months and need something that can replace my home computer.

To be honest, if you have an open budget, you shouldn't have problem finding a decent one. And since you are thinking of TOTALLY replacing your desktop, go for the TOP model (you won't want anything sub-US$2,000) that is light-weighted and offers the most support for peripherals.

Dont get the dang toshiba ... Either get the top of the line Dell model, or get the ACER with the reversable screen ... it is sweet

I haven't used them, but a mac laptop could be good. (especially with the bsd-ish base)

Mac's are extremely good for "graphics" developers such as architects, animation, or other graphical type development. I am not too sure that it would be recommended for programming development however?

I use an Acer Aspire 15.4" wide screen, 1.5gb memory.

I would recommend the Ferrari, but what do I know I am an acer reseller and got mine for free. So of course I recommend them.

Really though for reliability I would go with acer, international tech support, drop of protection can be bought for most countries.

And as for looks you will not get a better looking note book than the ferrari it makes the imacs look like candy.

When it starts and you hear the sound of a 4-500 hp engine you can feel the power of the notebook, and graphics card. Not as cheap as others but alot more for your money.


If you want to get into Hand Drawing, I would Recommend a Motion Computing Tablet, light weight upto 8hrs of battery life. Full touch screen w/ digitizer. Nice for doing custom graphics and is small enough to work with on the plane.

Yeah well I have one and I resell those also, so I might be Bias.
