IMO He's better off taking his money and funding new business startups than just giving it away to charities.

He is going to be playing golf here in Augusta all the time. He built a huge house here and is just going to chill out! He hangs out at some Irish pubs around here every once in a while, pretty normal guy to be hanging out at small pubs but I thought is was cool!

I think he's been a very good goy and a very bad guy. Sure, it's easy to see the "bad" he's done but he lived the "American Dream".

But, I have to thank him for the "educational" discounts on his products, while I was in college I was able to pick up several high end packages for close to nothing (he's been a big supporter of higher education even though he was a college dropout himself).

I think he deserves the retirement, he's busted his rear for decades and built up one of the most successful companies ever (I'd say close to Rockefeller (not the DNF member, the oil tycoon) and Flagler.

Now Bill, for the kudos, can I maybe .001% of your $50B? :smilewinkgrin:

A lot can be done with that kind of money. Research on cancer, helping those that are forced to eat dirt for nutrients, stem cell research, $49,500,000,000 can go a hell of a long way if its placed in the right hands. Its an amount of money that is impossible for one person to spend. If he does infact donate all but 1%, I admire him for doing so; and Im sure with the knowledge he has, that he will be placing the money in good hands.

Its easy to hate any big company, since they push with their power. But Gates and Microsoft have done more than anyone to fuel the modern computer world, and therefore the internet too. I think Gates should get more credit.

One of his dreams, supposedly, was to start over - from scratch. To see if he could really do it again. That would be interesting. He could try, if his role at some little startup was done anonymously; because, it would not 'count' if his name was used to open doors.

That would be quite a challenge! And for all we know, he might be doing it.

I doubt he would become a domainer though. And, if that is true...
is there a lesson to be learned?

So how would that help starving countries, or countries without healthcare, or what his charity does to try and help eliminate AIDS in poverty-stricken countries?

I think 500m (his 1% he is keeping) is more than enough to do a start-up company if he wishes.

I'm sure he is set just living off the interest he is earning each day from his $$$

My point is that the money would be better spent creating jobs by helping business start ups. I don't like charities and think most of them are scams with one of them being an exemption, Salvation Army.
