You are telling me basically that you want segragation of content based upon a coding scheme. I am in full support of having an .XXX or .SEX or .PORN TLD that is the only area adult content exists.

But variations in content are so many that you can't enforce this. Where would you put a sex therapy web site? Under BIZ or XXX? A web site for support of victims of abuse? Breast cancer will have to go under .MED or .SEX ?

first and foremost..

if they are a legitimate biz..
which holds a biz license.. then they alread got a SIC code.

it's standard

common sense...
knows which 'code' a biz falls into.

a sex therapist.. is 'health & medicine

we all know that.

an abuse organization.. is a 'non profit' public service..
we all know that.

puttin the .XXX as an extension

DON'T FIX THE PROBLEM.
( how are you gonna get all the other websites which are XXX to convert from their extension to an XXX ??

Your logic fails to see that the Internet is global, not a subset of corporate America. How will you tag, verify and categorize International web sites? Are you, the end user, going to do it or you'd rather trust some obscure committee do it for you?

Not even France, with their law against anti-semitic content could block Yahoo! auctions from selling nazi material.

It all comes down to the logic and common sense employed by the end user.

sex therapy & advocates for abuse & breast cancer..

That's not what I meant :D
But today's filtering techniques have many a time blocked - based on keywords - web sites that pertain to the information above, as if they were porn sites.

post on this thread..

the 'registrant'/name owner..

would enter his SIC code into the template..

(simply ANOTHER field) as per what his sic code is.

at the time of DN registration.

quite simply,
it's such a dynamic/no brainer plan

that's why no one can see it.

Hmmm...interesting.

But hang on a minute....you are assuming that a domain registrant would do the following:

1. Pre-decide what the content will be like - I have registered many domain names that don't have any content. Why should I commit to something?

2. Be truthful about either their intented or actual content.

3. That any subsequent owner of the same domain will be bothered or be required to change the code as well.

It's just too loose of a model. I for one, as a domain reseller would be pissed about the hoops I'd have to go through.

is over..........

we can just keep the crap like it is..
roll with the flow... what the heck?

that's the EASY way out...

but.. i'm one who travels the road less traveled..

and so,

i am accustom to major debate....

i've simply expressed an 'idea'..

that's all..

I'm always open to a much wiser mind who has the
answers.. or the solution, which i had not considered..

Wanda, the thread started as an article about some legislative attempt to oust all adult content from the .COM TLD, which I think it's ridiculous to begin with.

Now, I am not saying your idea is not interesting - it might even be revolutionary. Sometimes we don't see all that's coming to us :D

It's my personal opinion that the way the Internet has emerged and the rate that it has expanded with is a deciding factor against severe regulation of it. I am by no means a conservative but I would definitely applaud a method that controls the 'crap' in a non-totalitarian way.
