I do not know what to think. DNJournal's sales report again reveals a 6 figure sale for a domain name that I have in another ext. What is the culprit this time? The sale of Contests.com for $380,000.

I have been playing the domain name game for eight years. In those eight years, there have been NINE 6-figure sales of domains I have in another ext. Additionally, there have been probably 20 sales in the mid-high 5 figure range in the same scenario.

What do you think?

Do I have a bright future or am I forever cursed as a wanna-be?

It's obvious: the .com will fetch the 6 figures that most other TLDs won't. However, good generics e.g. dictionary .net and .org (even .info, .biz, .us and ccTLDs) can sell for a good chunk of cash. It's all about finding end-users. Most domainers are prejudiced in their pricing of non-.com TLDs.

It shows you are on the right track of getting good keyword domains.

Ok extensions would be .biz

better would be .info

best if it's .net .org .us or your own country code

I think having the .us of Contests is great given the .com sale, Americans love contests (Canadians too).

if it's .ws or .cc, probably doesn't really matter.

In my opinion, nothing compares to .coms and you shouldn't be doubting yourself, bashing yourself or patting yourself on the back. There's just no comparison.

.us for contests is a great name.. Your have a bright future

Bob, I remember reading alot of your posts 5-7 years ago when I started out, and I have always liked what you have to say.

And if I recall correctly, you have made some nice sales as well, haven't you? Maybe not in XXX.XXX range, but not alot of people have.

Are domains your primary source of income? If so, are you managing to lead a life that makes you happy?
