.CA domain transfers? How do they work?

I never had a .ca domain before or even an account at a .ca registrar but I just bought some names and sent the wire yesterday, escrow confirmed receiving today and the guy can push the names now so I need to know, how does it work?

I'd need to know on the receiving end, how to receive the push, and the other side to send a push as I have some of the names ready to be resold already.

Well - you are in for a treat,

-choose a registrar - I recommend namespro.ca
-setup an acc
-select "transfer domain"
-accept all the CIRA paperwork they throw at you - use the Online method
-submit to a rectal exam
-pee in a jar
-set dns/etc
-pay
-let the namespro folks guide you to ACCEPT the transfer
This will only do the REGISTRAR TRANSFER

now you need to repeat the process to do the
REGISTRANT TRANSFER

If you have an account at registrar 'X' and the seller also has an account at registrar 'X', then you only need to do a registrant transfer. It will cost about reg fee (10 bucks or so) per domain and add another year to the domain expiry date.

If you have an account at registrar 'Y' and the seller has an account at registrar 'X', then you need to do the above, but you also need to do a registrar transfer from X to Y. This will also cost about reg fee per domain and add a second year to the domain expiry date.

It's best if the seller and buyer have an account at the same registrar because you save one fee.

If you are buying a lot of low cost names from someone, these extra fees can really add up, especially if you do the two transfers. The flipside is your domain expiry dates get extended.

What about the CIRA transfer? (to put the whois in your name)
who do you contact to get that done? the registrar? cira?

contact you're registrar and have them update the cira account, cost $10. The previous owner needs to approve change

After the owner accepts the registrant transfer, the new registrant has to log into their CIRA account and formally accept the registrant transfer. This is a stupid, redundant step, but is probabaly the one that trips up registrant transfers most.

1) Transfer the domain to your registrar account
2) Transfer the CIRA ownership after step #1 is complete

right?

yes .CA sucks - this is the reason why i dislike purchasing .ca's - its hell.... .com with a push its all done... with .ca it takes 5-6 weeks to get it all in your ownership... not only do you pay for purchase, reg fee .. you also have to pay transfer fee for cira..

its so stupid..

im glad i only own 2 .ca's

never again, will i purchase a .ca
