A survey recently conducted by the UK consumer magazine "Which" came up with some interesting findings regarding printer ink.
With a typical HP 17ml cartridge costing around ã29 ($48.19) and an Epson 12ml cartridge costing around ã21 ($34.90), the cost of printer ink runs at around ã1.70 ($2.82) per ml.
Compare this with a bottle of vintage 1985 Dom Perignon Champagne at 23 pence per ml ($0.38) and the difference is quite astounding.
Additionally "Which" discovered that most cartridges had an embedded microchip which "warns" when the ink is running out, tests showed that this microchip issued its warning long before the ink ran out.
Epson chips actually stopped the printer working when the chip issued its warning - however using a "chip resetter" (cost ã20 or $33.23), "Which" were able to print an extra 38% more pages before the ink actually ran out.
