Thanks ACtNow.... been very busy getting my work together. I had a few people speak to the owners of magic.com they said that they are using the domain internally and they wont sell cuz they just wont.. they are good people and they represent a big company i think. However, you never know if they will tomorrow.

In the mid eighties, I was working at a small division of a large ($2B) American corporation, Harris Corp. Because our division was in the software business, we had harris.com. The rest of the company probably didn't even have email. Finally, in 1988 or 1989, the corporation got wise to email, and the domain name was transferred to the corporate HQ.

They of course, divided up the name amongst all the divisions, so our email addresses went from nice and sweet [email protected] to something like: [email protected].

Which brings up a question, is there a repository of whois information to show ownership through the ages? Like archive.org does for the recent past of a website?

However, Richard Sexton vigorously claims that DEC.COM, despite a later recorded created date, is actually older and was delegated first. Not sure, but certainly possible since DEC was so involved with the internet back then.

The oldest COM is COM ... Jan-01-1985.

Do a whois query on just the TLD part - most folks don't know that TLDs themselves have Whois entries.
