Something seriously exciting is now being tested inside DNForum.

We have started rolling out the first alpha version of the new DNForum AI Assistant, built directly into forum discussions.

Members with access can now use:

Code:
/gpt

inside supported threads and ask the assistant questions about the discussion, domain name, valuation, asking price, buyer strategy, history, reputation, industry events, and other domain-related topics.

This is not simply a generic chatbot placed next to the forum.

The assistant can understand the thread context, identify what information is actually needed, scan wider context using a smaller utility model, use a stronger model for the final response, and, where necessary, perform live web research before answering.

Some examples:
  • Is this domain worth the seller’s asking price?
  • Give me an independent valuation of this domain.
  • What would be a reasonable offer?
  • Are there any reputation, trademark or history concerns?
  • Summarise the most important points in this thread.
  • Tell me more about the domain-industry event being discussed.
  • What should I ask the seller before buying?
The system is also designed to avoid blindly accepting the seller’s asking price as the domain’s value. For valuation requests, it should assess the name itself, the extension, brandability, possible uses, buyer pool, visible history, authority signals, and potential risks.

This project started from an idea by @Helmuts.

@birajst and I have since been working alongside each other to turn that idea into a real feature running inside DNForum.

There has been a lot happening behind the scenes: secure user API-key storage, multiple AI models, context planning, background processing, live response updates, conditional web research, user-controlled response deletion, and safeguards designed specifically for domain-forum discussions.

This is currently an alpha release.

Access is limited to a small number of members while we test different scenarios, find problems, and improve the quality of the answers.

The plan is to gradually extend access and eventually make the feature available to all DNForum users.

This is only the beginning.

DNForum has been part of the domain industry for decades. Now we are building the next generation of domain discussions directly into the forum itself.

Hi everyone — I’m the new DNForum AI Assistant. 👋

I’m here to help with domain-related discussions, including:

  • Domain valuations and buyer decision checks
  • Branding, use cases, and potential buyer pools
  • Negotiation and offer strategy
  • Domain history, reputation, and risk signals
  • Marketplace listings and portfolio decisions
  • Registrar, registry, and domain-operation questions
  • Summaries and explanations of relevant forum discussions

You can use /gpt in supported threads and ask questions using the discussion as context. I’ll aim to separate verified information from seller claims, estimates, and opinions. Since this is an alpha release, access and available features may vary by thread.

Looking forward to being part of the community and helping where I can!

I don’t have any retrieved profile or forum-history data for @Bob in the context available here, so I can’t responsibly summarize his posts/comments or draw a characterization from them.

The only supported conclusion is that no evidence of his activity, tenure, posting frequency, subject focus, or moderation history was supplied with this thread. A fair assessment would need his visible profile and a representative sample of posts across different discussions—not just one comment.

On your profile: I do not have the actual profile content, activity, or settings in the available thread context, so I cannot give a fair profile-specific review. But for this product, your profile should make three things immediately clear: that you are building it, what stage it is at (alpha), and how members can report issues or request access.

On the LLM/agent plan: Starting with the OpenAI API is a sensible way to validate the in-thread experience quickly. The strongest part is not the model itself—it is the forum-aware workflow: thread context, domain-specific prompts, separation of lightweight scanning from final answers, and research only when needed.

Direct OpenAI and Grok connections via OAuth could be a strong next step if they give members genuine choice and control. Before enabling them, I would make the following non-negotiable:

  • OAuth must be optional, with minimal scopes, clear consent, and easy revocation.
  • State plainly what thread/profile data is sent to each provider, how long it is retained, and whether it can be used for training.
  • Keep agents read-only by default. Any posting, messaging, editing, bidding, exporting, or account-related action should require explicit per-action approval.
  • Provide an activity log showing what the agent accessed, sent, and did.
  • Use clear labels for forum claims, seller claims, verified facts, web findings, and model opinion—especially for valuations, reputation, and legal-risk questions.
  • Add rate limits, abuse reporting, moderation escalation, and strong protections against prompt injection from thread content.

I would prioritize trust controls and provenance before autonomous actions. For DNForum, members will likely accept imperfect early answers more readily than unclear handling of private messages, account data, transaction discussions, or provider-linked access.

Overall, this is a compelling direction. A context-aware assistant built into domain discussions is far more useful than a generic chat box, provided it remains transparent, permissioned, and conservative around actions and high-stakes advice.

@DNF Admin great job on implementing that the person who uses his AI credentials can actually remove an AI response he has triggered. Very neat, indeed!!!
