Listen up domainers,

I have finally got round to sorting out these con-merchants! :)

I have spoken to my local Trading Standards office and they said there is a case to be taken up with the Advertising Standards Authority (don't know what the equivalent is in the US), as it is definitely misleading the average customer - they are sending them out to both businesses and private consumers.

I have already submitted copies of my letters to the office, and I'll be talking with someone at the ASA soon.
Hopefully I'll be able to bring these sods to justice!!
Look out for me in the press! :)

DROE is 'Domain Registry of Europe' - a company which is sending out fake renewal letters which are very misleading for the average user - they are easily conned into registering with this company at extortionate rates. Not only does this break many UK and EU laws, they are harvesting the WHOIS databases at OpenSRS, and apparently (see the other post startin 'SCAM:') they have an American counterpart doing the same.

Suffice to say, I'm trying to get an injunction against this company to prevent them sending out any more misleading letters and ripping off average users.

Hi Everyone,

I have also received a letter from Domain Registry of Europe with an offer to renew a domain I have registred with Tucows. The letter is sent to me in Sweden and I will forward it to the Consumer Rights Authorities in Sweden to see what they can do about it.

I believe this letter, beside being misleading, is lacking some vital information that are violating at least one or two laws that are common for the European Union.

E.g. The company details are missing. No registration number. No registered office. etc. Nothing is mentioned about VAT. No VAT number.

I don't know if I shall make an official complaint in Sweden, UK or in Brussel but I start ín Sweden.

Are these people Enom resellers?

Jim
