I would hesitate to assume anything about who banned whom.
It is easy to assume things, it is hard to guess what goes on behind 'closed doors'.
Apparently, Mr, Rick is here, and I am sure there is a reason for that.

I would be interested to hear what the requirements are for pawning a domain, and what exactly are the legal 'rights' involved.

I'm not assuming anything and I'm glad to be back. The only requirement is a domain with liquid value. We negotiate a loan amount then do the deal. The registrant has to be changed to us during the term of the loan but you keep the DNS control and traffic. I'm not sure if I am answering your question or not though. I'm a bit confused as to what you mean by 'rights'.

No kidding LOL! That's in large part why digipawn exists.

However, if there was a decent bank out there that allowed domains to be used for collateral, that would greatly help many folks finance other ventures by leveraging their domain name portifolios much like how many folks do now with real estate, etc.

I think real estate values are much more stable for banks to invest in. Real estate is how old? Has to be hundreds, if not thousands of years old. Domain names? Not even twenty years old.


I guess the market's just not stable enough at this point? '99/2000 sure didn't help.

You can always get a 'general' loan and use it if money is needed.
However, the concept behind digipawn is quite innovative.
I just wish more information was available on how it works.

Payback 1-3% interest a month + a loan charge, loose the domain if you fall behind by x months.

Although it could be a much better deal.

I determine the loan value. It's hardly a science but I have a system like most of you do.

It's pawning. It isn't any different than leaving your DVD player at a pawn shop until you have the money to get it back. A bank would give you a much better deal than we will if you can go to the bank. We are a pawn shop. We do high interest, short-term loans. There is nothing to hide here. People come to us when they need money and they need it NOW.

I apologize but I can't guarantee that. I can tell you though that I have switched my team off cold-calling domain owners and onto cold-calling newspapers so at least everyone will get a rest.
