Gregr,

Since my previous questions have been ignored, I decided to create a thread dedicated to the question:

How much is banner advertising on dnforum.com?

Has this question been ignored because you do not want to reveal that you are already making a killing and have already earned your money back from your initial investment?

brn2h8 - Come on man. I know you are above this. Do you really think this is the way to get Greg to respond - by calling him out - and suggesting he is hiding something? Why would he ever respond to this?

Look around. There is a lot of stuff going on right now. It's not fair for everybody to be ganging up on Greg all at once. If not for him - nobody would have had the benefits of the forum for the last 6 months. Does that mean nothing?

Just let this go for now. There is a time and a place - and this is not it.

All due respect.

Fair enough, but I still don't think it takes much time to respond with a price. Other than my final request, I will let it go, but I am curious.

If anyone else knows the pricing, please feel free to let us know.

Actually - I might be able to send you the information. Give me a few minutes. :)

(note: I did say 'might')

Might be the weekend before we can we get those rates to you. Greg encourages advertising - and many members have advertised their (related) businesses here. I will send the latest rates to you - once I get them from Greg!

We have some pretty steady sponsors (as you can see) - but I will find out when the next opening is - etc.

I might even rent the space under my signature to you! :D

Last time I advertised, the price was $1.50/CPM. I think.

I spent something in the $130 range and it lasted for
about 1.5 weeks. It converted quite well :)

There were at least 4 other sponsors rotating, most are
still up there.

No doubt in my mind that Gregr is making pretty decent
profit from the banners alone. I'm guessing all of the
top advertisers have spent at least $500/each/month
on their spots. Do the math and you’ll have an approximate
monthly figure.

True, the auction scripts did cost quite a bit of money, so
wouldn't it make more sense to charge members who will actually
use this new auction system instead of charging every
member?

I understand the entire payment structure, so please do
not bother posting the list of plans and what they cover.

Based on what was said previously, it just seems to ME that the
reason this new membership idea went into place is simply
because of the auction scripts which cost "thousands".

Although I think the paid memberships are a bad idea, I would
be willing to pay under ONE condition.

If I knew that the Mods were being compensated for their hard
work then I wouldn't mind paying $50 or more on an annual basis.

These guys put in a ton of hours and I don't think it's fair that
they don't receive a dime.

Of course, I could be wrong. They may already be getting paid, but
I seriously doubt it.

Thanks Guys,
Luc L.

I don't see how any of this shit is anybody's business. Are you shareholders? Are you Employees? Are you relatives congregated at the reading of the will? Just let it go.

FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, LET IT GO

Put all this energy towards some good!

people seem to think that this forum is a non profit organisation or something - its a business and i think there will be less wining if people look at it that way:D

gregr could be using and his time and money to run a "Normal" internet company though i dont see any difference

maybe i can relate better because ive ran forums before and for me personally - its none of my members business how much money my forum makes because its me that built it, maintains it on a daily basis and invests money to advertise it frequently.

Precisely Fonz!

You gave away your objective there buddy.

True this is the current rate but most of the adverising dollars are locked in at much lower rates. Some advertisers jumped on the previous low rates and locked in. They were wise to do so.

Ok. If you don't see how it's anyone’s business, let me explain
it from my point of view.

No, we're not shareholders, employees or relatives but we
are MEMBERS. This forum is a community, and communities
are created by the members that elect to participate on a regular
basis. These communities are only MAINTAINED and operated by
the administrator and moderators but most of the contributions
still come from the members.

Now, I think you'd agree that communities such as this one
would cease to exist if there were no members. So if a forum’s
overall success is based on the number of quality contributions
made by the hard work of the members then why would you want
to start charging them?

Now that I think about it, we are a bit like shareholders. Every
tip and every idea we contribute helps this community expand.
We’ve invested our time and contributed our resources (ideas)
to this forum.

It's MY BUSINESS because we've helped this forum grow and get
to where it is right now. Our contributions, tips and questions have
helped to establish this forum as the world's hangout place for
domain geeks. Now someone is going to turn around and
start charging us for helping this community grow and prosper.

Thanks,
Luc L.

and that time and help has probably been returned twice over by other members who have helped you in other matters:)

i do agree with what your saying but posts etc count for sqaut when your spending a couple of grand on a unique auction system that no other forum has

just my two cents

when your spending a couple of grand on a unique auction system

Exactly, so like I said before, charge those who will use it.

Sure it's a great auction system, but I personally will NEVER
use and feel it's unfair that I have to pay for it.

:)
Luc L.

yeah, i think that is a good option
but i think it fails in one area

the whole point of the auction is that domain names can be bought and sold very cheaply

there would be much less particpation in the auction if there was a fee involved, many people dont end up buying anything and will be unlikely to join in the auction in future if they feel they didnt get their moneys worth

In that case charge the sellers, just like eBay.

Charge them $.45 listing fee or maybe 3% of total
sale.

No strain on the buyer, and seller can surely afford
45 cents.

Luc L.

3% of a $3.00 domain sale just isnt worth it in my opinion - but you do have some good ideas:)

personally, i think the current price model is good - $15.00 to remain a member isnt too bad considering most members have made a lot more through this forum

i can see both sides though but i think gregr is taking the site forward in the right direction

a good way to think about it is comparing the site to afternic or even ebay

your allowed a sale thread a day here - which works out much better than ebay and youll get more serious traders here than the fools on ebay who list terrible domains for $10,000.00

lol. we can debate this all day so I'll just stop
