Doing a reverse IP lookup?

I'm doing an IP lookup from a visitor to my webpage to see where an inquiry for a domain is coming from. When I do the search it shows Comcast which I assume is just the internet company the person is using, but it all shows a company name for a large engineering/environmental company. When you do an IP search is that how it normally works, you see the internet provider and the person/company that visited your page? There is a lot of info returned when you do an IP search.

Also do a reverse dns on the IP. If it has a ptr record do a whois on the record and research from there.

And finally, check with a geo ip locator service to guess where they might be coming from.

Also, always google the email address they used.

thanks, it was a gmail address and didn't turn up in a google search, makes me think they just use that email for things like this

Many just show you the geographic location, would be nice to know the account holder or exact business it came from.

The closest you'll get though is finding the ISP of the user, and down to the city / town level, unless of course they're using some kind of dedicated IP range etc for their business.
