We just had a fvcking earthquake here !

Lasted perhaps 20-25 seconds here. Up on second floor shaking like crazy!

I felt it here in toronto for about same time as well.

Reports of a 5.8 in the Washington DC area

That was no quake, it was the stock market falling :D

Trying to get ahold of my wife.

5.8 - that's a good sized one for the east coast.

Edi:t: USGS now says it was a 5.9

Local TV station...just got through. Flooded with calls from all over NC.

The last time we had one here, I called the TV station and they said they had no reports...then about a half hour later there was a special report of one in Virginia.

This time, they sure as hell felt it in the newsroom.

Still trying to get thru to wife. I imagine they have had some evacuations where she lives.

As for strength here, I would say low 3's. Shook everything like crazy. Seen a few minor cracks in internal wall's plasters.

Thanks. According to the preliminary data from that site, this was very shallow (which is good). Reports of being felt from Manhattan all the way here.

Are you referring to the one that just happened a few minutes ago or the one earlier this morning in Colorado.

Epicenter was about 50mins from where I live. Shook the house for a good 25 seconds. I thought it was a bomb lol. Then I ran outside saw some kids and was just about to ask them if they felt an earthquake when another kid comes running towards his friends screaming "Earthquake in Fredericksburg!!!!".

It was like a movie lol

From what I gather come cell networks have been disrupted.

Even by California standards, a 5.8 will get your attention!

Max I've experienced was a 6.3 in 1981 and let me tell you, even on the 1st floor you can feel the earth shake like a dish.

CNN reported most powerful since 1897 in this region.

I was in a 6.5 in Italy in the mid 70's. Lasted for well over a minute. Horrifying. Over 1,000 killed. Then we had another in September that was 7.2. Literally threw me out of my bed.

Heard from my wife. Usually they have heavy beds or carts rolling by. But she said the furniture in her office was literally bouncing up and down.

I am guessing here it was about 3.0 - 3.5.

Glad everyone is okay!
I experienced it also.

Had to do a walk around of the interior and exterior of my house. All brick build in the 1840's, 9 fireplaces, 4 chimneys, interior walls are solid brick with plaster. Fortunately only a few small plaster hair lines but had to do some interior work anyways.

Still, the shaking and bouncing was enough to cause concern.
