I run a web development business under the name Splash Web Solutions.
The domain for my site is SplashWebSolutions.net

I have recently received several emails with regards to the .com extension, stating that it is available for a one time fee of $150, then another email for $125 and several more and nows its at $49. Is this a scam?

Heres the last email I received.

The domain name SPLASHWEBSOLUTIONS.COM expired recently and we were able to secure it.

We noticed that you own SPLASHWEBSOLUTIONS.NET and felt that you may be interested in acquiring the .COM version of your existing domain name.

It is now available for a one-time fee of only $49.00 USD.

Standard drop spam. I get several of these a week. I guarantee the person doing this is a member here. It's too bad someone won't take them up on their offer, and then when they bid on the domain on your behalf, contact the drop service to expose their billing info.

Go grab that .com ASAP!
It is available to register right now!

I am surprised that you didn't bother to check whois when it's your business domain.
It happened to me same for my .org domain and got .com this way.
Helping hand from Spammer :D

I checked a few hours ago, it was registered, but seemingly its avai :P

Got a similar email. I was about to pay them. Then just checked the domain and realized its open for registration. their email said "They secured the domain already"

It's a scam (unethical but legal). They look for the owners of non .com domains and when the .com is available, they try to sell it to them.

A company for months was trying to sell me a .com of a .org / .net / .us / .info that I owned - one problem, I already owned it.

You know what's more surprising?
OP still did not register .com :D

I have managed to secure SPLASHWEBSOLUTIONS.COM for you

It is now available for a one-time fee of only $49.00 USD.
