Can we have Flash avatars rather than gifs or jpegs? The requirements in the store only say - 64 by 64 pixels or 20000 bytes (whichever is smaller) - they don't specify if any restrictions on file type.

Oooh, that would be cool!! :)

Although, if you get a lot of flash on a single page (i.e. several Platinum members doing it), it really slows down one's PC.

Hang in there everybody - I'll give it a try and we'll then know if it works!

vBulletin wouldn't support this without modification.

Even then, I think it would pee off some memebers. Remember the Fabulous.com flash banner incident?

I agree, the flash would be nice, however, it would slow down visitors with a regular dial-up & they would be gone before the page loads.

I don't remember - what happened?

(Starting to think it's not such a good idea - slowing everything down and imagine if people started using sound in their avatar!)

Great idea, just I think it's better not to use it.
Imagine the popup if members did not install flash plugin. :)

There's a way around "forcing" people without Flash to get a pop-up, but think of it this way... you can do some very *disruptive* things with Flash. Aside from LINKING the image, One could make a window pop-up, everytime their Flash runs for a certain period of time (or on roll-over). They can do all sorts of annoying... well... FLASHING to get attention. They can make NOISES every so often, or constantly... play music by streaming MP3s... etc.

Absolute Power Corrupts... Turn back! :)

Why not publish the flash as a gif ?

Good point...

I say... keep it simple whenever possible.

What is the ADVANTAGE of a flash?

What is the downside?
