Forum, Talk and Board! Which one is better

Hi,

1) How would you rank the order of those 3 terms?

Well, Forum should be #1.


2) Is boards a no-no? something like xxxxxxxboards.com?

Depends on the name. I'd rank talk number one for some names, and forum for others. I would not use board or boards, and I would not use forums.

If I were setting up a forum only ‘talk’ or ‘forum’ would cut it.

Avoid plural forum domains if you can help it and whatever you do don’t go with a double plural name like examplesforums.com

I'd say Forum/Talk/Board... Talk moves to #1 if its a catchy name... (like techtalk/sextalk/cartalk...) I wouldn't take the plural without the singular. (ie. I wouldn't register dnforums.com unless I owned dnforum.com - too shaky to build a business following without both, but OK for a hobbyist site.)

Back in the days when UBB (Ultimate Bulletin Board) ruled, there were A LOT of whateverboard domains around. But with the rise of vBulletin, the term forum (or forums) has almost become standard. Talk, on the other hand, is made known mostly by some popular forum sites. Personally, I still like boards.

'Boards' are antiquated in today's Internet lingo.

Getting 'talk' and 'board' does suggest you couldn't get 'forum' because it was taken.

The plural sounds really schizophrenic in this instance. Try to get the singular.
