GoDaddy just lowered their ownership change from $49.95 to $9.95

That's good news. I don't have to transfer 80+ domains to Stargate (renewing in the process) just to resell :)

Sounds more realistic.

Lets face it, ownership transfers usually only occur when we've made a damn site more than $10 :)

I told GoDaddy that last year. I thought they'd listen to me back then, as I unveiled a huge security issue they had. I guess they made some cool money out of it. They'll be more competitive now.

My ratings:

before the ownership change of GoDaddy and before the rate hike of Stargate:

1. Stargate 9/10
2. GoDaddy 6/10

After both registrars changed the policies mentioned above:

1. GoDaddy 9/10
2. Stargate 8/10

Stargate still does not charge for domain ownership and they don't plan to implement that either; however GoDaddy has faster support.

I've stuck with INWW (Melbourne IT) for a while now, moving my other reges from elsewhere to them.

They do the reges/renewals for $8 each based on our volumes. Ownership trfs were free, but they are introducing a "reg fee" level cost - which seems fair enough to me. If I'm changing ownership because we've sold a domain, an $8 fee doesn't matter much either way.

Did you receive an email notifying you of this or did you read it on the site.

Just wondering if I am having emails going astray.

No, I logged into my GoDaddio account :D
There is a link in red saying "Change ownership" with a note "Now only $9.95". I hope it's not a promo only....

I think it had been $19.95 for some time before they lowered it to $9.95.

Worse than the fee is the notarizing and mailing of transfer agreements IMO.

I still prefer Stargate, even though they raised their prices and their support is not the quickest ;)

Once, I received a response from them after 2 weeks lol, had forgotten what the question was

Is this not the standard way of transferring ownership?

no. e.g. with stargate you just set a new user/pass for a domain, and it gets automatically pushed to a new account, so it's the same as ownership transfer
