Has Google got a liberal attitude nowadays to letting their ads appear on casino/gambling sites? I've noticed a couple of sites on here for sale recently that are displaying google ads. This is not a criticism - I'm just curious.

They're not gambling ads, they are card gaming ads from the ones I see.
