I find easiest database of recent sales is go to namebio.com
enter: -
no words, etc , just a hyphen, as above into search field, will return pages and pages.
all sorts. some $x sales, some $xx,xxx
interesting stuff, all in one place. shows current trends too

interesting, thanks pred. i could never figure out how to get them to return results w/ hyphenated names because even when i check the box to include hyphens it never does :?:

also, in my research i have found that almost all good generic-words.com that make sense are taken. for less commercial words you might find, for example, sun-shine.com taken but shine-sun available. but for more commercial domains you would find, for example, both used-cars.com and cars-used.com will be taken.

in many cases for strong keywords the underscore names are also taken, as in keyword_keyword.com

You can't have a domain name with an underscore in it. Maybe its cause you're using domain tools, which removes stray characters... or DomainSite which maybe looking up the idn version.

hmm, very interesting. don't know why i didn't know that.

but actually i was searching domains with namecheap at the time. and they showed domains with the underscore as 'taken'.
