What a crappy week...

I find myself unemployed a couple of months before Christmas... I have maybe enough money to get through another month without going into more debt... I am meeting with my financial adviser tomorrow and a career counselor on Wednesday and I am getting my resume polished up so that I will be ready to start applying...

My wife and I actually discussed selling our house and one of our cars (which is actually paid for) if it comes to that...

Not sure why I am posting this, I guess I just wanted to get some thoughts organized and try to get myself motivated to begin yet again on a career path... :sigh2:

Don't worry too much and try to do what you can. Selling your asset is not a long term solution.

- Update your resume - make sure there is no spelling or grammar error. Remember employers scan the resume by keywords so trying to customize the resume according to the requirements. Also be careful with some words that should not be on the resume (magna 'cum' laude).
- Ask a couple of people to be your references
- Make a contact list of all your friends and previous co-workers. Contact them and let them know that you are looking for a job.
- Wake up every day as normal time and maintain a positive attitude

- You may want to post your skills and where you live here. Some members may help you to find the right job.

I really appreciate the advice...

I am not a "woe is me" type person and I have gone through this before... I have been in the IT industry for 8 years or so now and it really is a roller coaster ride...

One positive is that I should be able to get a few of my domains developed over the next couple of weeks, I am working on a plan for one right now, so stay tuned for my newest site

or take domaining to its fullest.

That is something that I would really like to be able to do but I just am not able to commit the kind of $$ that I really believe is needed...

I do plan on trying my best with what I have right now, though...

Make decisions like u r still working but looking for a better job.
Greek market is different than Canadian but some job huntng tactics are the same.

Place as many cv's as u can and dont turn down even the slight offer.
You can start from somewhere and then climb up.
Keep in mind that as long you have good health you can do everything.

Makis, nothing is like the Greek job market which is way underpaid. The "700 euro generation" is stunting the country's financial growth.

I am in Canada actually :canada: and I was not the only one let go, the company I work for recently merged with another large company and layoffs always happen in that situation... I am just a number in their eyes... and expendable, such is life...

Tough luck with the job.These things happen,but sometimes things turn out much better in the long run.
I am not sure where you reside but the job market out west here is Hot,like really hot.Every proffession is hiring.

This is probably the greatest time in history to get into apprentice plans, such as electrician,plumber,pipefitter,carpenter and so on.

I know that BC is advertising world wide for trades. In Alberta, the oil sands are very short of workers (big bucks there)

So I would recommend that you do not rush into selling your house or other drastic moves. Just get on that 'puter and go through job postings, everywhere. Take some time and you will find that dream job.

Who knows, perhaps losing your job was for the better, lots of choices out there.

Thanks once again for all the support, I am in Saint John, New Brunswick... My wife has a good job here and we are settled so there will be no moving... I have been looking over the wanted ads all morning and I see some decent jobs posted so the resumes will start going out tomorrow...
