i need help with computer question!

my husband bought me a new laptop for an early christmas gift and the kids a new desktop- it was supposed to be a surprise, but they called our home number to set up delivery! so now i know, but he doesnt know i know- he tries


anyway, when they set up, they do a data transfer,no programs. how do i get my stuff to the new laptop from here? this puter has no burner- i need my mail, programs, etc...

- Set the IP address so that both laptop/desktop are on the same subnet: 192.168.1.10 and 192.168.1.11
- Change the property for the C drive to be shareable
- Plug both into a network switch
- Go to network connection and you should see the old computer C drive - you can then just open two windows to move/copy files/folders.

On the other hand use the usb cable if this is too complicated.

so, all i need is a cable? then i can plug this one in and atach it to the new one? will it matter at all that this is windows xp and the new puters have vista?

yes, i am ALL about not complicated! ok the cable suggested before did not get rave reviews- does anyone have any reccommendations?

Actually the easiest way to move files is by using the windows Files and Settings Transfer Wizard and a network cable...No software or hardware to buy this way either
