In the United States its a Time for family and Friends to gather and give thanks for the many things they have in life, to just be together, to enjoy each others company, to share love and laughter, it was originated by the pilgrims when they celebrated there arrival in America back in the 1600's when they gathered for the fall harvest with the native Americans, ate and gave thanks for the bountiful times they enjoyed, I'm sure other countries may have similar times of family and friends to gather and if nothing else just simply be together, i maybe mistaken but i believe Canada has something like this also, here in the USA its a time which also tends to kick off the Christmas shopping season which in the biz were in can mean additional revenue if you have some type of shopping site or portal.
