Interesting weekly report / traffic

I get weekly reports from my hosting company and I've noticed the "profile' pages are getting on the lines of 2000-5000 hits a week:

1 DOMAIN.TLD/forums/phpBB2/profile.php 1967 42
2 DOMAIN.TLD/forums/phpBB2//profile.php 1067 23
3 DOMAIN.TLD/forums/phpBB2///profile.php 817 17

The last number is the % of traffic, so 78% of my traffic is people hitting the profile pages on my forums. My questions are:

1) Is this suspicious or just annoying spammers?
2) What the heck is with all of the extra /'s in the address bar, just before the profile.php?

I'm having this with a couple of my sites, coincidently the older sites.

I've checked the logs and it looks like the same IP address will hit the same page 40-75 times in a matter of seconds, then just go away. Then, a few hours later, it will happen again from a different IP.

It is annoying me because it is throwing off the legitimate traffic so I can't easily see which pages are doing well and where the traffic is coming from.

Here is another one that is a lot newer (about 5 months old):
