I got started because my dad showed it to me, wish i got started sooner but i would of been to young, im only 17

Well, I was an amateur webmaster and one day I sold my website. Then I met with the domain business. People were buying and selling domains like lunatics. I was excited and decided to join this market :lol:

I was looking to host my own website at home (OK, stop laughing). I was having difficulties with getting it to work, then a friend of mine pointed me to a cheap registrar (1&1) and I signed up for a hosting package, too.

I registered several domains also hoping to flip them quickly (yeah, right). Then I got pointed to another webmaster's forum and that one led me here.

Now the domains I've purchased since joining here are a much more positive investment (and at GoDaddy).

i don't remember what i was searching at Google but somehow ended up at dnforum-

remember thinking- wow, finally intelligent forum with clever people on board- so started harvesting what they are bragging about, went to chats and first my question was to ask - "what is a TLD?"

I got into mainstream domains after I got into adult domains, weird.

i somehow discovered one day that you can 'view source' in your browser and see all of this funny code. next i realized i could write that funny looking code myself and display a webpage locally on my pc. that led to the idea that i could build my very own poker related website, sign up a bunch of players and let the money start rolling into my poker accounts. so first i had to buy a domain. before long i was buying another domain, then another ... and so on. Then i stumbled in here. and the rest as they say is still current affair.

I was searching for something on Google and have found Danica Patrick's pictures which have redirected me to GoDaddy, where I have bought my first domain

I needed to buy a domain for a clients future website and somehow that led me to afternic, then their forum and then to here.

initially i was doing sites and seo, understanding the importance of domains was just a natural progression.

I started my own website at loaded.net which got me thinking and I soon got hooked. I had hundreds at Network Solutions in a period when you could register domains without having to immediately pay for them, probably around 1998. Unfortunately I let most of them go as my mom's credit card simply couldn't take it at the time, there were some real gems!

Around 1999 I read about domain sales that were happening, looked into it, and started regging some names in Jan 2000. Wish I had regged better names though. I was in at a good time but didn't know what names to get.

I too started in 1998-1999 but let most of my names expire in 2003. Most were LLL's and dictionary .net's and .orgs.
Then got back into the business in about 2005 when one of my names that I did keep, got a high offer on it.
Still sour about all the names I let expire though!!!

My girlfriend at the time, told me that I wanted secs too often and that I needed to find "something else" to occupy my mind. So I thought, since this was probably a good business for people that don't get any at all, then it just might be a good business for people that don't get enough.

It all start for me back in 1996 when got a $3k plus state of the art computer, so I could learn them to teach my kid when she got older. From there I started traning my self for my A+ comptia, cert exams for computer tech from there I wanted to start a host site. That fell through as hosting, and domains become dirt cheap that lead to domains.

At first it was to start some thing else, but then I turned to adsense and hoping to sell domains. Now after a complete regrouping, I'll be doing adsense sites and selling digital goods. And hopefully also start selling fine art prints, from photos I'll be taking and some I already have. The hosting was a bad start and I got ripped off, for $150 server for 2 months from the get go.

Never ever buy a server space from ebay, unless you use your credit card that is for sure. But getting ripped off was not as bad, as the smack in the face from ebay and pay pal. They said the seller did nothing wrong at all, because it was intangable goods that hurt. I've mostly been doing this stuff as a hobby, but hoping to make some money as well. I got my A+ cert passing with flying colors, it sits in my wallet as it was just out of a hobby for me.
